About Epithalon
Epithalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a short synthetic tetrapeptide modeled after the natural pineal peptide epithalamin. Interest in the compound stems from aging research, where it has been investigated in cell and animal models for effects on telomerase activity, telomere length maintenance, and age-associated changes in neuroendocrine regulation. Its simple four-residue structure makes it a convenient scaffold for structure-function studies and for comparing short-peptide stability under physiological conditions. Researchers also use epithalon as a reference compound when evaluating peptide-based interventions in longevity-related endpoints, including gene-expression profiles linked to cellular senescence. Despite its small size, synthesis quality matters: incomplete coupling yields abundant deletion sequences, and aspartic acid is prone to side reactions such as aspartimide formation, which can produce beta-linked isomers with altered properties. Shandong Shengyuan releases epithalon only after RP-HPLC purity of 99.5% or higher, LC-MS sequence confirmation, and residual-solvent testing. Supplied lyophilized for research use only; not for human or veterinary use.
